Lumvong is popular Lao traditional dance where people form a circle pairing with opposite sex and literally dance in circle to Lao traditional folk music. They are either Lum or Lao traditional country folk music where it has it unique rhythm.

Women dance on the outer and males are in the inner circle. Together they groove slowly following the smooth and happy Lao beat by moving three steps forward then turn facing their partners and walking back and forth toward another. Their hands remain at above chest height making all sort of silly gestures but somewhat graceful only can be interpret by the dancers themselves. Steps are repeated until fully sweat or song ends. The flow or speed of the dance depends of the speed of the music. It can be moderate or very fast indeed.

“Sao Lao” meaning “Lao Girl” is an excellent example of a typical folk country song where Lumvong can be danced to. Actually, this beat itself is also known as Lumvong. “Sao Lao” is by Parn Chindavong. Every festival or ceremony, band must play Lumvong songs. For example at wedding reception, bride and groom will open by starting off the night by dancing to Lumvong song then every else will follow.

Lao nationality makes up of many ethnics. This video showcases beautiful Lao girls modelling various ethnics’ fashions. Official language is Lao. Laos is so unique: its people, arts, cultures, customs, architects, music, foods and others. We should be proud. See for yourself.
